The AirTrain, a dual-track elevated railway, connects John F. Kennedy Airport terminals to Jamaica Station (E, J, Z and LIRR trains) and Howard Beach Station (A train). The AirTrain carried more than 5.7 million customers in 2012, up 30% from 4.4 million in 2007. (In the same time span, driver parking at the region’s airports has decreased 20%.) AirTrain carried 15,633 passengers in 2012 over its 8.1 miles of track. The system connects ten elevated stations using 32 driverless trains.
